BC Hydro is one of Canada's largest and most progressive utilities, with an inspiring mission to "create a conservation culture" in BC. Thanks to our Premier's ambitous BC Energy Plan targets (achieving energy self-sufficiency by 2016, much of the shift achieved through conservation) this mission has a lot of new, er, energy behind it.
Communicopia has been engaged as a senior advisor helping them create a new conservation vision for their website and change the way they communicate with citizens and customers. Over the summer we've been very busy, helping them launch a new home page, an exciting Team PowerSmart fall campaign, and, today, launching our first ever Facebook application called GreenGifts!
If you're my friend on Facebook you'll see me talking about Green Gifts. It's designed to let people send free environmentally-themed virtual gifts... along with practical Power Smart tips for saving energy.
We'd really appreciate your help in encouraging people to try the application for themselves. It's a great way to spread the word about conservation, and if we get a solid start out of the gate, it could turn into something big.
You can install Green Gifts by pointing your browser to http://apps.facebook.com/greengifts. Please invite as many friends to the application as you can by following the "invite friends" link at the top of the application window. (You can send people gifts, too, but you'll be limited to 10 gifts every 48 hours.) Your friends will have the chance to win a great power-saving prize every day, including a solar iPod charger (including iPod), so we hope this will go viral.
I hope you'll have a chance to check all this new work out, and help make conservation choices in your own life and those of your friends and family. We'd love to know what you think about any of these projects, especailly the GreenGifts Facebook app!
