We are currently looking for a highly experienced Drupal Developer to work on contract with us.
Communicopia is a 14 year old, Webby Award winning online strategy and development firm supporting organizations working for sustainability and social change. With an office in Gastown and a small, tight team of industry leaders, Communicopia's clients include BC Hydro, Make Poverty History, Environmental Defence Canada, the Centre for Social Innovation, and the United Nations Foundation.
Position Overview
You will work with us as an on-call contractor, providing your expertise developing and troubleshooting in the Drupal platform. You will be working on a per-project basis and must be able to work from home. You will need strong skills in server configuration, custom application programming, databases, and be able to tackle complex programming issues.
Our developers don't just build websites—they are resourceful, creative, and care deeply about our clients. With a strong degree of independence and responsibility, you will need to communicate well and have a broad set of development skills. You will be working tightly with our developers and project managers, lending a hand for complex aspects of development and sometimes taking on a more complete role developing a whole site including install, theming, site configuration and module setup, functionality customization, etc.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assisting with medium to large scale website development projects as directed by a senior producer
- Creating elegant and efficient programming solutions that are flexible and forward-compatible
- Developing custom modules
- Debugging and troubleshooting issues
- Configuring servers and databases
Skills and Experience Required
- Expert programmer in the LAMP environment
- 2+ years as a Drupal developer with a solid understanding of the framework, coding best-practices, resources and community
- Solid understanding of the web medium, and the tools and trends that are evolving it
- Expert knowledge of PHP, MySQL, HTML, JavaScript, CSS and cross-browser compatibility
- A good sense of design aesthetics and usability
- Capacity to multi-task, balancing multiple priorities and interruptions
- Understanding of and interest in corporate sustainability / corporate social responsibility, non-profits, and technology a strong asset
